The 9 and 10 of swords bring me to the end of the minor arcana on my tarot card journey. I find the symbolic nature of swords fascinating, even though I’ve never wielded a sword and am far from being a master of the mind ;)

The 9 of Swords – the woman sitting in her bed in the middle of the night is vulnerable; woken by nightmares and distant dreams. She would much rather avoid facing what lurks in her subconscious mind, yet somewhere she knows that she must clear this obstacle to move on.

The 10 of Swords is often interpreted as a quite drastic card (10 swords pinning the subject down may have something to do with this), to me however, the symbolism surrounding this card doesn’t feel necessarily all ‘bad’ – I interpret it as a milestone along the the road (of understanding the mind), where the symbols speak of dawning awareness, rather than instant death. The cat in my card represents a knowing guide, the one who will open her eyes to the sunrise, prompting her to take in what she has learnt along the way.

Armed with a more positive take on this card than the ‘norm’ I was happy to find this interpretation on: Avia’s Tarot Teachings website, which you might want to check out for more information.

Work in Progress #9 & 10 of Swords

The final cards left to draw are the 16 cards belonging to the royal arcana; they include Page, Knight, Queen and King in each of the four suits. Look forward to meeting them!

Oh I do hope I can please her with the royal party … I’d hate to let a cat down! :)

Morticia was delighted to be part of the Ten of Swords and is wondering why she has not figured in most (if not all) of the cards. She is, however, looking forward to the royal arcana…
